Studio Impressions

Our Experience So Far

From the moment the box arrived, it was clear that the MM-500s were something special. They came packaged in a beautiful hard-shell flight case, precision-cut with high-density foam to snugly house the headphones, cabling, a soft secondary pouch, and even a certificate of authenticity – a premium touch that we initially thought was just for our studio, but turns out is standard for all MM-500 buyers.

Plug-In and Play: Blown Away

We connected the MM-500s to our Lynx Hilo converter and were instantly blown away. As a studio that primarily works on a £20,000+ monitoring system – PSI A25M midfield monitors, A225M subwoofer, tuned with Trinnov correction – we weren’t expecting headphones to get even remotely close. But the MM-500s delivered.
The stereo imaging, detail, and depth of field felt shockingly similar to what we hear from our treated room. Transients were very accurate, reverbs sat exactly where they should, and the overall mix translation was incredible. These aren’t just good headphones — they’re serious mix tools.

Tested Across Genres

We ran them through our trusted reference playlist – a mix of tracks we use to check stereo spread, low-end punch, reverb length, and vocal placement. The MM-500s handled every genre with clarity and precision. Whether it was electronic, acoustic, pop, or hip-hop, the playback remained balanced and honest.

Build Quality and Studio Use

Build-wise, the MM-500s feel just as premium as they sound. Solid, well-engineered, and comfortable for long sessions, they clearly aren’t built for casual travel or mobile mixing. These are open-back headphones, so sound will bleed out and therefore not ideal for cafes or noisy hotel rooms. But in a studio setting or a quiet mobile setup, they’re right at home.

Who They’re For

We’d confidently recommend these to anyone looking to bridge the gap between high-end monitoring and headphone accuracy – especially if you’re working in an untreated space, or don’t have the budget for large-format monitors. The MM-500s deliver a level of confidence in your mixes that’s hard to come by in this price range.

“It’s a strange one! I have never been keen on using headphones but I now find myself picking them up and hearing details I missed when using my monitors. They are incredibly detailed and easily the only headphones I have used that can produce not only a very flat frequency response, but do so without smearing transients and achieving seriously detailed low end”
